Publisher Q&A: Ray Potes of Hamburger Eyes Photo Magazine

Raul Guerrero, a San Francisco native, recent graduate from Loyola Marymount University, and photographer, works with Tanzanian youth, providing them with the creative tools needed to tell their stories. Raul provided 100 disposable cameras to nine students, taught them basic photography skills, and gave them assignments based around documenting their everyday experience. The Disposable Project is their story.

From May 11th to July 20th, 2011, Raul volunteered at the Born To Learn preparatory school in the Newlands area of Moshi, Tanzania. This program gives children in low income situations the opportunity to receive a temporary general education during the process of seeking sponsorship to allow them to attend an established school.

The Disposable Project launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund a photography book of the children's images that Raul intends to print. The book will give each of the nine kids the opportunity to tell their stories and show their work; proceeds made from book sales will go towards sponsoring these children in established schools. The Kickstarter page can be found here.
