Today we start a short series featuring images by Peruvian street photographers curated by members of the LimaFotoLibre Collective. Today we show work by Handrez García Gonzales and Carlos Díaz. This series was organized by Nataly Castaño.

We asked the collective to briefly introduce themselves:

The LimaFotoLibre Collective constantly makes a visual registry of daily life, in the unexpected moment, or when we were not thinking of taking a photograph, at the same time producing a graphic archive, based in the casualty, spontaneity and view of each member.

From the capital city, from its streets, in the middle of the chaos of the everyday routine, LimaFotoLibre captures what usually goes unnoticed and what is seen as inconsequential in the day-to-day life of any citizen from Lima.

At the same time, we use the city of Lima as a visual lab for multimedia experimental projects and as an exhibition space through photographic interventions.

The reason why I'm a street photographer: one coexists with the city, loving it and hating it, but in the long run looking to understand it and live peacefully within it. Maybe the city feels the same towards us, or maybe everything I just said does not make any sense. In the end, I make or try to make street photography to live in peace, and if I don’t accomplish that, at least to have fun for a moment.

The reason why I'm a street photographer: for the pleasure of walking, observing and photographing. Immersing oneself in a spontaneous and unpredictable flow, that strengthens one's subjectivity. Feeling and registering the beauty and chaos of the streets, contributing in this way to the visual memory of the city.
