In 2015 I went to Photolucida and I was supposed to split a room with Hye-Ryoung Min. Unfortunately she had to cancel the reviews and go to Korea so I went online and tried to find a roommate to split the expenses.

That's how I met Cristian Ureta. He is from Santiago, Chile. His book Returning to the Land is simply magnificent. It is about a town in Chile that was built by a mining company to host the miners and their families and was eventually evacuated by the same mining company because of economics and pollution. The project consists of haunting, desolate landscapes and cityscapes of the run down town in addition to portraits of the inhabitants and their everyday life.

Last time I chatted with him on Skype he was collaborating with a book publisher and he was color correcting and supervising future publications for Chilean photographers.

I met Paccarik Orue (originally from Peru - lives in San Francisco) at Fotofest. He had just finished his project "There is Nothing Beautiful Around Here" and had just started working on "El Muqui," his latest project about a beautiful town in the Peruvian Andes that is starting to disappear due to a mining company. Again, striking portraits of the town folks juxtaposed with an ever-changing, fading environment.

Ok, I admit it. I'm very interested in cityscapes and remote places.
